Accreditation
SANS Technology Institute is an accredited institution and a member of the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MS CHE or the Commission) www.msche.org. SANS Technology Institute’s accreditation status is Accreditation Reaffirmed. The Commission's most recent action on the institution's accreditation status on June 21, 2018 was to reaffirm accreditation. MSCHE is recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education to conduct accreditation activities for institutions of higher education including distance, correspondence education, and direct assessment programs offered at those institutions. The Commission's geographic area of accrediting activities is throughout the United States.
MSCHE is recognized by the United States Department of Education (USDE) to conduct accreditation and pre-accreditation (candidacy status) activities for institutions of higher education, including distance education and correspondence education programs offered at those institutions, throughout the United States. USDE recognizes accrediting agencies deemed authorities on the quality of higher education. Under the Higher Education Act’s (HEA’s) federal student aid programs, accrediting agencies recognized by the United States Department of Education must meet the Department’s regulatory criteria. MSCHE is a Title IV gatekeeper and is a link to federal programs, and institutions access Title IV through MSCHE accreditation.
SANS Technology Institute is scheduled for a MSCHE re-accreditation visit in 2027.
Authorization
The SANS Technology Institute is authorized by the Maryland Higher Education Commission to grant undergraduate and graduate degrees and certificates in cybersecurity.
NC-SARA Participation
The National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA) is a private nonprofit organization that helps expand students’ access to educational opportunities and ensure more efficient, consistent, and effective regulation of distance education programs.
Recognizing the growing demand for distance education opportunities, higher education stakeholders — including state regulators and education leaders, accreditors, the U.S. Department of Education, and institutions — joined together in 2013 to establish the State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (SARA), which streamline regulations around distance education programs.
